Season 4 of the medical drama New Amsterdam debuted on NBC this week, and some of the character development in the first few episodes has fans wondering if protagonist Max may be departing the program.
New Amsterdam is based on Eric Manheimer’s book Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital and follows Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) as he attempts to improve one of the country’s oldest public hospitals.
ISN’T MAX GETTING RID OF NEW AMSTERDAM? WHAT IS THE STATUS OF RYAN EGGOLD?
There have been no allegations that Ryan Eggold, who plays Dr. Max Goodwin, is quitting the program, as this would mean the series’ primary character would be gone.
After the events of the season 4 premiere revealed that the character would be spending some time away from the hospital, fans speculated about his departure.
Helen, Max’s love interest, had previously indicated in season 3 that she would be departing New Amsterdam to continue her job in the United Kingdom.
Max appeared to be seeking for a replacement for Helen during the season 4 premiere, as she had already spent some time in the United Kingdom. Max, on the other hand, declared that rather than replacing her, he needed to depart with her and travel to the United Kingdom with her.
This has caused some consternation among fans, who believe he is abandoning the show, but all this might mean is that a portion of the season 4 story will take place outside of New Amsterdam, possibly following Max and Helen on their new adventure.
