During an official visit to Cambridgeshire on Thursday—the county from which the royal derives her title, the duchess of Cambridge—Kate Middleton wore a tribute-inspired shade of blue as she approached a lifelike portrait.
Kate attended a day of engagements in the English county with her husband, Prince William, beginning with the unveiling of a special portrait at the Fitzwilliam Museum.
The artist, Jamie Coreth, said that being chosen to paint this picture was the “most extraordinary privilege” of her life. The portrait is the first to be painted of Kate and William together.
He continued, “I wanted to portray Their Royal Highnesses in a way that they seemed both casual and approachable, as well as elegant and dignified.
I wanted the picture to convey a sense of harmony between their public and private lives because it is the first portrait of them together and specifically from when they were The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
For her engagements on Thursday, Kate wore an L.K. Bennett print day dress in light blue and orange hues, which she paired with a sophisticated longline blue coat.
