After becoming separated from its mother and repeatedly getting stranded, a baby dolphin was put to death in Australia.
Local beachgoers in Mandurah discovered the three-week-old calf stranded there, according to a report from Perth Now.
It was unsuccessfully released back into the ocean by beachgoers.
The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) and a volunteer group, the Mandurah Volunteer Dolphin Rescue Group, then arrived on the scene.
According to Perth Now, the mother was found off the Mandurah foreshore waterways, but the calf was unable to return to the depths. The DBCA decided to euthanize the calf as it kept stranding itself.
