Noah Green was identified as the now-deceased knife-wielding perpetrator who attempted to crash a vehicle into a U.S. Capitol barricade, escaping with a knife, killing one Capitol police officer and injuring another.
MSBNC’s Pete Williams and other NBC journalists were the first to identify the perpetrator, who said he was 25 years old and from Indiana. The name has yet to be confirmed by authorities.
NBC journalist Tom Winter posted, “BREAKING / NBC News: Several top law enforcement officials briefed on the probe say Noah Green, a 25-year-old male from Indiana, is the guy who targeted the Capitol today.”
Earlier in the afternoon, the acting Capitol police chief released devastating news: one of the officers, who has not been identified, was killed in the shooting.

Chief Robert Contee of Washington Metropolitan Police said in the afternoon press conference that the homicide unit is taking over the investigation in connection with the “shooting death that occurred as well as the officer’s death.” He said there was not an “ongoing threat.”
